The boatyard on Vindön has celebrated its centenary

Thank you for a memorable centenary celebration. On 22 August 2026, Vindö owners, enthusiasts and friends of the boatyard gathered on Vindön to celebrate 100 years of the Vindö boatyard. We would like to extend our warmest thanks to everyone who attended and helped make the day so memorable.

During the celebrations, we explored the boatyard’s history together through photographs, stories and personal memories. Britt Johansson, daughter of Carl Andersson, gave a talk on the history of the Vindö boatyard. Special thanks go to Britt and to everyone who shared their stories and historical material. The boats, the craftsmanship and the people who have shaped the boatyard over generations took centre stage, alongside the strong sense of community that still surrounds Vindö boats today.

Thank you to Mats Jönsson, Rolf Carlgren, Carl-Gustaf Leijonhufvud and everyone who shared their stories, took part in the day or brought their Vindö boats to the celebrations. Your contributions made the centenary more than a look back at the past – it also became a reminder that the Vindö boatyard’s story continues. Thank you for joining us to celebrate 100 years of craftsmanship, boating and community. We now look forward to preserving this heritage and carrying the Vindö tradition into the future.

Britt’s presentation

During the centenary celebrations, Britt Johansson gave a personal talk about her father, Carl Andersson, who founded the boatyard on Vindö. Through her stories, visitors came to know the man behind the boatyard and the history that laid the foundations for what the Vindö boatyard would later become.

Her talk offered a vivid and intimate glimpse into the boatyard’s early years, the importance of family and the craftsmanship passed down through generations. Britt’s story was a much-appreciated part of the celebrations, connecting the boatyard’s hundred-year history with the people, boats and community that continue to keep its heritage alive.

Rolf Carlgren shares his memories

Rolf Carlgren began working at the Vindö boatyard in 1977 and has been part of a significant chapter in its history. He shared memories and experiences from his years at the yard, including the period when production reached one Vindö boat a week.

Rolf’s stories offer a personal glimpse into everyday life at the boatyard, the skilled craftsmanship and the close collaboration behind every boat. His experiences brought an important era in the Vindö boatyard’s development to life and highlighted the expertise and dedication it required.

Mats Jönsson shares his memories

As a former CEO and owner of Vindö Marin, Mats Jönsson played an important role in the transformation and development of the business. During the celebrations, he shared experiences from his time at the boatyard and spoke about the work involved in preserving Vindö’s proud tradition and craftsmanship.
